A Philosophy of Science-After 65 Years
The author is distraught over the plight of physics. Eschewing physics for medicine (he was offered a 4 year scholarship at MIT in 1953), he has in the interval kept a close eye on the world of theoretical physics as well as the world of mathematics. Mathematics has provided generations of scientists a foundation for their work. Here the author shows that this foundation may be made of sand: the discoveries of linguistics and neurobiology have shown that the origin of mathematics is mankind itself. It follows that when examined, mathematics is a tautology and philosophically cannot have reference to the real world. This book studies the dividing forces between philosophy and science. The concerns focus upon theoretical physics and laboratory medicine, but really involve the whole inter-action between science and philosophy
